  • inspiration for medieval wallsDateSat Jan 19, 2013 4:59 pm

I think before 800-1000 years the walls were much smoother. The grouted joints better, the walls plastered smooth. It is now assuming that the walls of the castle were even painted in color. Unfortunately we have today, by Hollywood, a false impression of the architecture in the Middle Ages.
At this time the stone processing and wood processing was in the prime and at a very high level. A few weeks ago we were at a event in Lütjenburg about building in the early and late Middle Ages.
Archaeologists, professors gave lectures on the building in the middle ages. Since then my attitude and knowledge has changed over again. We should not be so much by ignorance and fantasy but rather to keep on facts.

  • Hi All,
here is a new building suitable for the project Lütjenburg:

    Dimensions: width 95mm, length 107mm, height 98mm

The kit consists of resin parts (roof and gable), base plate of dental plaster and lasered hard cardboard and balsa.

    Hi,
thanks for your comments, on it goes.
How can you now imagine to build such a tower.
First on a flat surface, the basic framework of the tower has been established (Phase 1). The hill is does not exist. Once the skeleton of the tower stood until the hill was filled (Phase 2). The necessary ground was taken around the tower to the ground. Thus simultaneously created of the moat surrounding such a moth.

    Hello,
in the last week we have followed the invitation and have the Lütjenburg visited in Schleswig-Holstein. It was more a meeting with the theme "The craft - and architecture in the early Middle Ages" and the visit of archaeological monuments ground where once stood motte castles.

    Development plan of the castle:

Coming from Lütjenburg you have the following view of the castle in Nienthal.

The entrance gate to the castle:
It is up to now not yet clear how such a gate looked like, only the dimensions of such gates are known. During excavations of such gates found the post holes. Through the gate you can see on the left side of the barn complex.

The barn and the Knight's house as seen from the tower.

At the house of the knight can be seen on the right side of the "floor heating" for the building. The building was heated from the outside (see picture), and the heated air rose to the interior of the building.

The house of the knight inside.

    The blacksmiths:

    The Tower:
There were probably two goals. A goal down at the bridge and one at the end of the bridge. The gate at the end was provided in all likelihood have a drawbridge.

    End of the first part.
