Ok, he´s not yet dead but almost dead . He´s representing a genoese crossbowman at crecy, caught between the English lines and the charging french knights. The genoese were ridden down by their own forces, like this figure shows...

What could be better than some miniatures under the cristmas tree? I think the idea with the less-quality parts is great, but it´s hard to make a fair price for it because some figs are more usable than others that are more broken...

Yes, the power of the english longbows... That´s exactly what I want to show on the diorama. It´s not easy because all manufacturers just have knights in full action, riding towards the enemy and on a diorama it looks like they will ride down the English easily. But the falling knights sets are just great for my dio... Thanks to all for your replies...

I had a horse and a knight which I haven´t painted yet, so I´ve put them together and made a falling knight out of them. It`s the kicking knight from Valdemar with a Zvezda helmet. I hope you like it. The picture shows him together with two other falling knights (no "conversions"). I´m still not sure about the horse´s legs; is the choice of colour good or should the grey be a bit brighter or even totally white? Critical comments are welcome.

Here is a little conversion that won´t make it on my diorama. It´s an english longbowman taunting the french knights. He is one of my first conversions but I realized that he doesn´t fit to the other archers because they are all in action... The basic figure was a french crossbowman from zvezda converted by unsing milliput. Hope you like it :-p

When you use greenstuff for modelling, then you could use a very sharp knife to cut off some material where it would be too thick after the next layer.

The shield with the stripes is cool, very pleasing to the eye. And the armour is awsome!

Yes, I like it very much... tere is a lot of action in the dio...great! I hope I´m allowed to use this thread for posting a photo of my work, so I needn´t create a new one. The dio (battle of crecy) is not yet finished but this is about 1/3 of it that is nearly finished. Call it a teaser ;-p

I hope I can finish the diorama soon, but I still need some more mounted knights. I´ve got the Zvezda set of english knights and painted them as french, but I need some other poses for a dynamic dio. I´m waiting for the Emhar knights for nearly two years now, but it seems as they won´t publish them anymore :-( I also added some Valdemar knights but it´s not enough...

Hi, here are my dead genoese crossbowmen and french spearmen for the battle of crecy. The Valdemar set "VA 105 Skirmish"was great for this. I had to do just little conversions to let the figures look like crossbowmen and not like dead russian knights and teutonic sergerants.

And here are my first two figures with self-made banners. They are Richard de Beaumont who carried the Black Prince´s banner and Erard II a luxemburgian knight. (Banners are waving in opposite directions because the characters are opponents and will look in different directions on the battlefield/diorama) Thank you for the tips!

  • Maybe you could add the figure in the background of the last photo and use him as a standardbearer. In my opinion a medieval treasurer with his guards needs the royal flag to show everybody: "We are here in order of the king, don´t come too close!" And I like all the poses very much... maybe the best set ever...

Kannst es mir auch auf deutsch erklären... aber da das hier kein deutsches Forum ist bleiben wir beim englischen: I didn´t meant the Oriflamme, i meant the blue banner with the golden fleurs de lis on it. I found a great heraldry site but there isn´t the standardbearer of the king: www.krigsspil.dk (go to "Downloads" and then to "HYW")

    1) Who knows the name of the knight who carried the french king´s banner at crecy? And a description or even a photo of his coat of arms would be great!
    2) Did every knight had someone who carried his banner or did some of them carried their banners themselves?

Hope someone could help me out :-)

  • Self modelled figuresDateFri Nov 19, 2010 10:35 pm

Hi all, some time ago (about 2 years) I´ve tried to make my own figures. Here´s the result. The shields, sword and helmet of the kneeling knight were taken from plastic sets, so they are not self-made. The funny thing is, that I wanted such a pose so much and some weeks later Valdemar miniatures brought a battle-set on the market with nearly the same pose

Ok, my first try: I used cardboard and cutted it into small pieces. Then I`ve glued them by using paper on some Zvezda plastic lances. After drying I´ve dipped the flags into some very liquid glue that is originally used for glueing grass. When the cardboard soaked up some glue and became more formable I´ve bended it, so it looks like floating in the wind and dipped it again for some time into the glue. Now they are drying. Looks pretty good and I´ll post some pictures later...
