I've just went once again through my Valdemar collection but only found two figures that I felt were useful for this diorama (both from the peasant army on the march (if I remember correctly). It's a pity that there are no other early medieval figures in the range so far.

No glossy paint but I've used/tested a varnish (semi gloss clear) which gave the undesired glossy effect . The varnish took apparently alo the shading away. Just tried to correct it.

Just finished the siege machine. I found in a book a reference to similar machines under the name scorpion (schorpioen), in other ones it's referenced as a ballista.

For a battle set : foot soldiers being shot down by some archers/crossbowmen. More dead or dying men to complete the battle scene. Casttle defenders throwing stones and pitch on the men climbing the ladders
